You are an Image Bearer of God - Help for Struggling with Body Image

For the one who’s struggling with body image: I pray you would see yourself the way God sees you through Jesus Christ. He created you perfectly and beautifully. He did not make one mistake when making you. Let me say that again (please stop for a moment and allow this truth to sink into your heart). You bear the image of God! Who you are conveys God to this world. He did not make one mistake. You are not a mistake. Nothing about you is a mistake. Your personality. Your face shape. Your size. Your height. Your beautiful smile. Your hair. Your legs. Your laugh. Your freckles. You are an image bearer of the One True King!! Amen!! Write this down on a notecard today and keep it in your pocket: “He did not make one mistake when creating me.” Put it on your mirror and speak this truth over yourself every morning.

Meditate on these Bible verses:

Genesis 1:27

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Psalm 139:13-16

13 For you created my inmost being;     you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;     your works are wonderful,     I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you     when I was made in the secret place,     when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;     all the days ordained for me were written in your book     before one of them came to be.

When I look into the mirror, many times I don't see what God sees. The critic within me takes over my thoughts. He whispers into my ear that I am worthless because I don't measure up to what the culture says is beautiful.

I will not allow this voice to be the ruler of my thoughts. On God's truths alone will I stand. My heart's cry is to be a woman of dignity. I could care less if the culture thought I was beautiful, sexy, or valuable. All I want, is for God to look down upon my heart and smile. Character is beautiful. Dignity is beautiful. Valor is beautiful.

The look of approval in my Father's eyes is worth far more than what any man or woman may think of me.

The smile on my Father's face wipes away any negative thought I may think of myself.

If you are struggling with body image, remember you are not alone. This culture has trained us to only care about our outward looks, but God has called us to care about our hearts and our character. I pray you would continue to submerge your heart and mind in God's truths.

You daughter, are beautiful. You daughter, are dearly loved.

Love,

Ashley
